KAUNAS
A card sent from Kaunas in the Soviet period 1940-1941.
The card is sent to Germany and you see the German censorship-postmark.

The postmark is something unclear, but on the other side of the card is wriiten the date of writing: 7-IV-1941.
As we have seen before, within the types of postmarks this is Type 3, one of the two types used in the Soviet period 1940-1941.

In the large towns there was one Head Post office, so called ПОЧТАМТ - Pochtamt and many regional post offices. After collecting letters from post boxes, these small post offices sent it to the Pochtamt. There were few branches - ЦЕХ (in Lithuanian: Cechas) for sorting. These branches were bearing numbers according to number of them. There were such branches for local delivery, for delivery in the Soviet Union and a branche for outgoing correspondence

Kavarskas, a very little town, lies in north-east Lithuania, 24 km. east from the district town Ukmerge. Kavarskas has a population of only 700 is the fourth smallest city in Lithuania.
